Playtech commissioned a report to understand views on establishing a safe gambling experience in Latin America and raising standards.

The research explores how Latin American consumers perceive and engage with responsible gambling, highlighting regional trends, regulatory developments, and player attitudes across five key markets: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, and Peru. Key findings:
• High Self-Perception of Responsibility: 93% of respondents consider themselves responsible gamblers, with 58% saying they gamble for fun and 35% stating it doesn’t affect their daily lives.
• Growing Online Gambling Participation: Online gambling participation rose significantly, with Peru (82%) and Colombia (75%) leading. Brazil (60%) and Argentina (53%) showed notable increases.
• Responsible Gambling Defined by Emotions and Control: Not feeling anxious (49%) and not spending money one can’t afford to lose were top indicators of responsible gambling. Legal site use was especially important in Brazil (60%) and Colombia (52%).
• Positive Reception to Protective Messaging: 65% of respondents appreciated receiving responsible gambling messages, with 34% respecting them and 31% feeling safer because of them.
• Preferred Communication Channels: Pop-up messages (38%) and emails (37%) were the most preferred methods for receiving responsible gambling notifications, followed by WhatsApp/text (24%).
• Impact of Gambling Warnings: 39% of those who received gambling warnings changed their behavior—31% slowed down, and 8% stopped immediately.
• Demand for Stronger Industry and Government Action: 37% believe the industry needs to improve its responsible gambling efforts, and 36% think governments should do more.
• Entertainment Beyond Sports: 60% of respondents expressed interest in betting on entertainment, with virtual sports (46%) and e-sports (37%) also gaining popularity.
